Background:
Pie! Everyone loves it.
Hearing the word, mathematicians think of an equation. Long
distance riders conjure up thoughts of a tasty treat.
This ride celebrates both.
Special offering two days a year. If
you are riding at any time during Pi(e) days, March 14 or July
22, then you are eligible for obtaining a Pie 1600K GOLD for eating at 4
pie locations as described below. Why these dates? Well depending on where you live; March 14th can be written as 3.14 (Pi) - 22/7 is a fraction which is a good approximation for Pi too...
Read the rules
for the iconic SaddleSore 1000
on the Iron Butt Association site. The rules for this ride are similar and you
will get valuable background information.

Definitions
DBR - Dated Business Receipt
A DBR is a machine generated receipt with the date, time and LOCATION
on it. Check it - do not assume it is correct. A receipt
with an incorrect time/date/location is worthless. Check and
re-check.
What is pie?
Sweet or savory-anything with a pastry crust. Pie can be open like a
cream pie. Pasties, pot pies, hand pies and fried pies count as
well. For this ride: pizza, calzones, sausage rolls and quiches are not allowed; they're simply not pies. It's a pie, if it's called a pie.

Rules
This is a SaddleSore 1600K only. You may nest this ride it in longer
rides.
The ride must begin and end at a pie location.**
Pie Pursuit 1600K - Eat at 4 pie locations - 24 hours**
Pie Pursuit 1600K GOLD - Eat at 4 pie locations - 24 hours** AND be riding at
some time during March 14 - or July 22.
Permitted Pie Locations:
The ride is designed to encourage finding locally made pies from any of the following locations:
Pie shops or bakeries; local, non-chain restaurants; cafes or diners. Farmers markets or specialty grocery stores which sell local produce.
Excluded Locations:
Pie from fast food locations, gas stations, dairies or general stores do not generally qualify, unless you can confirm that they are locally made.
Confirm by taking additional photos of the label. For the purposes of 'local' you must be certain they were made within 25km of that location and you must be capable of provding evidence of that in submitted photographic form.
Any chain grocery store, for example Woolworths or Pak N Save; they often have a bakery department but they do not qualify for this ride.
A chain is described as having more than six locations. Beware of *chain bakeries* which may not bake on-site, you should avoid Bakers Delight and perhaps Holywood Bakery unless you can determine that they have an active bakery on site or that they sell *locally baked* goods.
THE RIDE
You will be taking a selfie or photo of yourself and your pie and collect receipts after each pie location.
Your ride starts after you eat your first piece of pie (so you are on the clock when you get your receipt after eating).
Your ride ends after your last pie and you get a receipt.
You may take any route you like, but all pie locations must be at least 320 ridden kms apart.
**We recognize that few if any pie shops or bakeries are open 24/7, we
will permit one WILDCARD to be used
in place of the permitted locations mentioned above . To use the
wildcard, you may take a selfie eating pie in a 24-hour chain restaurant (because of a general lack of 24h diners in NZ, we'll specifically permit a 24h McD's or a Wild Bean Cafe [within a 24h BP fuel station] - but only for this one, wildcard Pie. This specific allowance doesn't otherwise soften the general prohibiton above, preventing the wider use of fast-food outlets or gas stations for either the wildcard, or for the more general pie locations).
Your official time is determined by the starting
and ending receipts. PLEASE check these documents and make sure
the clock and date are correct!
